The Philadelphia Flyers, sitting at 9-10-3 with 21 points through 22 games played, currently sit in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division. They would hit the road to Nashville to take on the last place Predators in hopes of getting back to hockey .500 Wednesday night.
Ryan Poehling was called for tripping and Luke Evangelista was called for embellishment at the 5:28 mark of the first period. This would make it four on four.
Roman Josi gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at the 6:17 mark of the first period as his wraparound attempt went off the skate of Travis Sanheim and past Philadelphia's goaltender Aleksei Kolosov. This goal was scored on the four-on-four. Carrier picked up the only assist.
Scott Laughton tied the game up at one for the Flyers at the 12:46 mark of the first period. His wrist shot found its way past Nashville's goaltender Juuse Saros at a difficult angle from the right side. Poehling received the lonely assist.
The Predators took a 2-1 lead at the 16:18 mark of the first period as Ryan O'Reilly's slapshot beat Kolosov's short side. The Flyers lost sight of him and he was left all alone. Nyquist and Skjei tallied the assists.
0:59 into the second period, Matvei Michkov was called for roughing which gave the Predators their first Power Play of the game. They didn't capitalize on the opportunity but peppered Kolosov with eight shots on net.
The Flyers got their first Power Play of the game at the 17:37 mark of the third period, as the Predators were caught with too many men on the ice. The Flyers pulled Kolosov to get a six-on-four-man advantage. However, they couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.
Morgan Frost tied the game up at two for the Flyers with only 11.4 seconds left in the third period. He tipped in a wrist shot by Travis Sanheim from the blue line past Saros's glove. Sanheim and Couturier collected the assists.
Couturier won the game for the Flyers in overtime, tipping in a pass from Konecny past Saros's glove at the 2:31 mark of the overtime period. Konecny and Ristolainen picked up the assists. The Flyers would win by a final score of 3-2.
The Flyers went 0 for 1 on the Power Play and 1 for 1 on the penalty kill in the game.
Kolosov kept the Flyers in the game all night long. He saved 25 of 27 shots, giving him a .926 save percentage.
